How to Get a Skincare Merchant Account Approved

The documents, label and claim checks, and offer rules underwriters look at before approving a skincare brand, timelines, and what to do if refused.

Article summary

TL;DR

Send a complete file and a site that already reads as cosmetic. Underwriters want ID, company and bank documents, processing history if you have it, and they read your labels, claims, before-and-after visuals and checkout. Show MoCRA registration or your exemption, keep claims cosmetic, and present subscription terms clearly. Trials are where most skincare files stall.

  • The constant document set: ID, bank letter or voided check, 3 months of bank statements, 3 to 6 months of processing statements, site and marketing materials.
  • PayKings displays an average 24-hour decision and reviews "trial offers, and continuity billing".
  • DirectPayNet asks for a chargeback ratio "under 2%".
  • Soar Payments refuses "free plus shipping fee" offers and "exaggerated health claims"; PaymentCloud on free trials: "Most likely, no."
  • Claims to remove wrinkles or boost collagen make a product a drug under FDA guidance.

Watch out

Approval covers the products and offers you declared. A new trial, a new product line with drug claims (SPF, acne) or a new funnel can need a fresh review.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need for a skincare merchant account?

ID, a bank letter or voided check, 3 months of bank statements, 3 to 6 months of processing statements if you have them, and your site and marketing. Add MoCRA registration and listing, or your exemption.

How long does skincare merchant account approval take?

PayKings displays a 24-hour average for skin and hair care; others take a few business days. Missing documents and trial offers slow files down.

Will processors accept a skincare free trial?

Some won't: Soar Payments refuses "free plus shipping fee" offers, and PaymentCloud's answer on free trials is "Most likely, no." Clear subscribe-and-save offers are easier to approve.

Why was my skincare merchant account application declined?

Common reasons: drug-like claims, trial offers, aggressive upsells, before-and-after visuals with atypical results, high chargeback history, or a MATCH listing. Ask which, fix it, re-apply.
