Meta and TikTok Ads for Skincare Brands: Setup and Tracking

What Meta and TikTok allow for skincare ads, before-and-after rules on each platform, copy that gets rejected, and purchase tracking.

Article summary

TL;DR

Skincare ads are allowed on Meta and TikTok, but the two platforms disagree on before-and-after images. Meta allows before-and-after of general cosmetics for adult audiences; TikTok does not allow showing wrinkles disappearing with a cream through before-and-after comparisons. On both, avoid claims to cure or treat skin conditions and anything that puts down how people look. Track purchases from the server as well as the pixel.

  • Meta exempts "non-permanent cosmetic and beauty products such as creams, makeup, hair products" from its 18+ age targeting rule.
  • Meta permits before-and-after of "general cosmetic products" for adult audiences; TikTok lists "showing wrinkles disappearing by using a cream through before-and-after comparisons" as not allowed.
  • Meta bans statements "of inferiority about physical appearance" and claims to "cure, heal, or eliminate".
  • A product to "remove wrinkles or increase the skin's production of collagen" is a drug or device under FDA guidance.
  • Meta recommends the Conversions API alongside the pixel, with a shared event ID.

Wrinkles disappearing with a cream, before-and-after: not allowed

Before-and-after is where the two split.

Before-and-after, platform by platform

Older guides still say before-and-after is banned everywhere. That is no longer what Meta's standards say for general cosmetics1Meta Advertising Standards, Health and wellness, change log entry July 22, 2026.

Two rules apply on both platforms:

  • Results must be typical, or you must disclose the generally expected performance616 CFR 255.2(b), Consumer endorsements.
  • The image is a claim. A before-and-after showing wrinkles gone makes the same promise as the words.

Run separate creatives for Meta and TikTok rather than one asset everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use before-and-after photos in skincare ads?

On Meta, yes for general cosmetic products targeted to adults. On TikTok, showing wrinkles disappearing with a cream through before-and-after comparisons is not allowed. On both, results must be typical, and anti-wrinkle or acne results suggest drug claims.

Do skincare ads need to target 18+ on Meta?

Not for non-permanent cosmetic and beauty products such as creams, makeup and hair products, which Meta exempts from its 18+ rule. Weight-related and some health products do need 18+ targeting.

Why was my skincare ad rejected?

Common reasons: copy that puts down appearance or implies a skin condition, claims to treat or erase something, before-and-after on a platform that doesn't allow it, or a landing page that promises more than the ad.

Can I advertise anti-aging skincare?

You can advertise cosmetic benefits, such as moisturizing or smoothing the look of skin. A claim to remove wrinkles or increase collagen makes the product a drug or device under FDA guidance, and TikTok rejects wrinkle before-and-afters.
