Payout Timing for Skincare Brands
When skincare brands get paid on Stripe and Shopify Payments, why beauty payouts are held or reserved, and how to plan cash around it.
Article summary
TL;DR
On Stripe, US payouts normally settle in 2 business days, but the first payout takes 7 to 14 days depending on industry and risk. Shopify Payments can pay into Shopify Balance in 1 business day, up to 5 for new merchants. Beauty brands also meet holds for product eligibility, reserves (merchants report 20% for 120 days) and, on Stripe, a 120-day payout pause on unacceptable risk.
- Stripe US settlement: 2 business days; first payout "within 7–14 days, depending on your industry, country of operation, and risk level".
- Shopify Payments to Shopify Balance: as little as 1 business day; up to 5 for new merchants.
- Shopify names "product eligibility" among the reasons an account goes on hold.
- A beauty merchant reports Shopify reserving "20% of our funds for 120 days".
- Stripe "will typically restrict or pause payouts... for 120 days" on unacceptable risk.
