Express Checkout for Fitness Brands
What Apple Pay, Google Pay and other wallets change for a fitness checkout: shipping on equipment, subscriptions on nutrition, upsells and placement.
Article summary
TL;DR
Express checkout lets buyers pay with a saved wallet such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay or PayPal, without typing a card or an address. For a fitness brand, check three things first: that heavy items get the right shipping price in the wallet sheet, that renewals work on wallet orders, and that your upsell still fires.
- Offering at least one accelerated wallet "can increase lower funnel conversion rates by upward of 50%" (Shopify with BCG, June 2023).
- In an Ecommpay and IMRG study, retailers with one express option converted at 54%, those with none at 52%, those with four at 67% (October 2024).
- 9% of US shoppers who abandon a checkout cite missing payment methods (Baymard, 2025).
- Wallet sheets can collect the shipping address and phone number and update shipping rates when the address changes (Stripe docs, read November 2026).
- On Shopify Subscriptions, Authorize.net does not support Apple Pay or Google Pay.

What express checkout changes
Express checkout removes the two slowest parts of a mobile checkout: typing a card number and an address.
| Card form | Express wallet | |
|---|---|---|
| Fields to fill | Card, expiry, CVC, name, address, phone | None or almost none |
| Typical device | Desktop | Phone |
| Authentication | Card details, sometimes 3D Secure | Face ID, fingerprint or device PIN |
| Shipping address | Typed by hand | Taken from the wallet |

The two studies worth knowing point the same way. Shopify and BCG, across 220,000 sites, found that one accelerated wallet can lift lower-funnel conversion by upward of 50%1Shopify, with Boston Consulting Group, What a billion data points reveal about conversion, June 29, 2023. Ecommpay and IMRG found that the number of express options mattered more than having just one2Ecommpay and IMRG, checkout study, as reported by FF News, October 31, 2024.
For context, Polar Analytics reports a 2.25% median conversion rate for its "Sports & Outdoor" category (updated August 2026)8Polar Analytics, Ecommerce benchmarks, Sports & Outdoor, updated August 25, 2026. It is the closest category to fitness equipment, not a fitness figure.

Which wallets to offer
| Wallet | Reaches | Available through |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Pay | Safari and iPhone buyers | Most card processors |
| Google Pay | Chrome and Android buyers | Most card processors |
| Shop Pay | Buyers with a Shop account | Shopify checkout |
| PayPal | PayPal account holders | PayPal, and some processors' express buttons4Stripe Docs, Accept a payment with the Express Checkout Element, read November 2, 2026 |

Start with Apple Pay and Google Pay: they cover most mobile buyers and run through your card processor. For equipment at several hundred dollars, a pay-later option can matter as much as a wallet; see payment methods for fitness brands.

Equipment orders: address, phone and shipping in the wallet sheet
On a bench or a rower, the wallet decides the shipping address. Make sure the sheet asks for what the carrier and your dispute file need.
Shipping address:
The wallet returns it. Wallet integrations can require it and restrict it to the countries you ship to4Stripe Docs, Accept a payment with the Express Checkout Element, read November 2, 2026.
Shipping price:
Heavy items often cost more to ship. The sheet can update shipping rates when the buyer picks an address, so the total is right before they pay4Stripe Docs, Accept a payment with the Express Checkout Element, read November 2, 2026.
Phone number:
Freight and large parcels often need one for delivery. Wallet integrations can require it4Stripe Docs, Accept a payment with the Express Checkout Element, read November 2, 2026.
Full address for disputes:
For "merchandise not received" disputes, Visa's merchant defense is "proof of delivery that contains the full delivery address (tracking with partial address is not permitted)" (edition of October 24, 2026)5Visa Core Rules and Visa Product and Service Rules, edition of October 24, 2026, dispute condition 13.1.
Watch out
A wallet sheet that shows a flat shipping price, then a surcharge by email after payment, is a fast way to cancellations and disputes. Show the final shipping cost in the sheet, or don't offer the wallet on items you can't price there.
Tagada follows Visa and Mastercard rules and the laws that apply to payments.
Delivery disputes on equipment are covered in chargebacks for fitness brands.
Sports nutrition: subscriptions and upsells on wallet orders
Wallets sit on top of your payment setup. For protein and pre-workout sold on subscription, check how they interact with the rest.

Placement
- Top of the checkout, above the card form, with the order summary visible.
- On the product page or in the cart for single-product funnels, so buyers can pay without opening the checkout.
- Subscription terms and the order bump above or next to the buttons, not below them.
- Card form still available for buyers without a wallet.
