Can You Sell Fitness Products on Amazon, eBay, Etsy or TikTok Shop?

Gym gear has no marketplace rule of its own; sports nutrition follows supplement rules. Amazon testing, TikTok Shop invites, eBay and Etsy.

Article summary

Yes, with conditions

TL;DR

Equipment, yes: no marketplace we checked has a rule aimed at gym gear. Sports nutrition follows supplement rules: Amazon asks for third-party testing; TikTok Shop US limits supplements to invited sellers; eBay bans steroids. A marketplace collects payment for you, so it replaces a merchant account, at the cost of fees and customer data.

  • Since January 2026, Amazon asks US supplements to prove labeling and cGMP compliance through an approved testing company; sports nutrition also needs NSF/ANSI 173 testing.
  • Amazon takes a 15% referral fee above $10 and 8% at or below, plus $39.99 a month on the Professional plan.
  • TikTok Shop US: "Eligibility to sell dietary supplements is limited to invite-only sellers" (updated October 2, 2026).
  • eBay prohibits "Narcotics, steroids, and other controlled substances" (read November 2, 2026).

TikTok Shop and TikTok's own rules

Two layers apply on TikTok:

Watch out

Many guides still quote TikTok's 2024 wording on "weight loss or muscle gain products"6NutraIngredients, "Why did TikTok ban muscle-building products on its platform?", June 4, 2024. The current page doesn't mention muscle5TikTok Community Guidelines, Mental and behavioral health, released August 25, 2026, effective September 24, 2026, but weight claims stay off limits. TikTok's ad rules are stricter again: can you advertise fitness products?

Many fitness brands use both: the marketplace for discovery, their own store for refills and bundles. Getting your own store's account approved: fitness merchant account approval. Running the store side: the fitness brand tech stack.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sell protein powder on Amazon?

If it's sold as a dietary supplement, each product must pass Amazon's verification of FDA labeling and cGMP through an approved testing company, required since January 2026. Sports nutrition also needs NSF/ANSI 173 testing. Budget for referral fees of 8% to 15% and the $39.99 monthly plan.

Can I sell fitness equipment on Amazon or eBay?

Yes. We found no Amazon or eBay rule aimed at gym equipment. General product safety, listing and shipping rules still apply. The fitness-specific limits on these marketplaces concern sports nutrition and steroids.

Can I sell pre-workout on TikTok Shop?

Only if you're invited: TikTok Shop US limits dietary supplements to invite-only sellers. TikTok's community guidelines also don't allow trading or marketing weight-related products "that include exaggerated or harmful claims".

Can you sell supplements on Facebook?

Meta's shop listing rules reportedly exclude ingestible supplements, but we couldn't find Meta's page to confirm it on November 2, 2026. Ads are a separate set of rules, with an 18+ limit on weight loss and gain: can you advertise fitness products?

Do I need a merchant account to sell on Amazon?

No. Amazon collects payment and pays you out, minus its fees. You need a merchant account only for your own store's checkout.
