Payment Methods for Supplement Brands
Which payment methods a supplement store should offer: cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, PayPal, buy now pay later rules, and what works on subscriptions.
Article summary
TL;DR
Offer cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay first, then PayPal. Those cover most buyers and work with subscriptions. Buy now, pay later is harder: Afterpay prohibits testosterone boosters and sexual enhancement products and treats nutraceuticals as restricted, and Klarna decides case by case. Check each provider's list before adding it.
- 9% of US shoppers who abandoned a checkout cite not enough payment methods (Baymard).
- Shopify and BCG linked at least one accelerated wallet to higher conversion, up to more than 50% at the bottom of the funnel.
- Afterpay prohibits "testosterone boosters or sexual enhancement products" and restricts "pseudo medicals, pseudo pharmaceuticals and/or nutriceuticals" (updated July 15, 2026).
- Klarna's lists are not exhaustive; it "may in sole discretion decide" what isn't allowed.
- Wallet payments can carry cryptograms that support liability shift in some cases.
