Meta and TikTok Ads for Info Product Businesses: Setup and Tracking

Run Meta and TikTok ads for online courses and coaching programs: what gets rejected, how to show results, and how to send purchases from the server.

Article summary

TL;DR

Meta and TikTok accept ads for online courses and coaching programs. What they reject is a promise of money without explanation, flaunted cash, and copy that implies the viewer's financial situation. Sell the skill, keep the landing page in line with the ad, and send purchases from your server with the same event ID as the pixel.

  • Meta prohibits "Offers of opportunities of unrealistic financial reward for unclear or minimal effort" (read November 2, 2026).
  • TikTok bans "Flaunting or showing off money" and "Ambiguous claims on how to get rich with no information as to how" (policy updated August 2025).
  • Google Ads requires a visible no-guarantee disclaimer on testimonials that claim specific results.
  • Meta and TikTok both deduplicate pixel and server events on a shared event ID within 48 hours.
  • Kajabi sends only Purchase and Lead through Meta's Conversions API; other events go through the browser.

Meta, TikTok and Google: the rules side by side

None of the three platforms names courses or coaching as restricted. All three target the same thing: a financial outcome promised without saying how.

MetaProhibits "Offers of opportunities of unrealistic financial reward for unclear or minimal effort"1Meta, Community Standards, Prohibited Commercial Practices, read November 2, 2026
MetaAds "must not contain content that asserts or implies personal attributes", including "vulnerable financial status"2Meta, Advertising Standards, Privacy Violations and Personal Attributes, read November 2, 2026
MetaAds "must not request financial information, including … income, net worth or how much debt someone has without our prior permission"2Meta, Advertising Standards, Privacy Violations and Personal Attributes, read November 2, 2026
TikTokBans "A lack of information on how a product or service can deliver financial outcomes", "Flaunting or showing off money" and "Ambiguous claims on how to get rich with no information as to how"4TikTok Ads policy, Deceptive practices, updated August 2025

Google AdsBans claims that "entice the user with an improbable result … as the likely outcome", including "'Get rich quick' schemes"3Google Ads policy, Unreliable claims, read November 2, 2026

What gets course and coaching ads rejected

These patterns break the rules above. Each has a version that sells the same course.

Sell the skill, not the buyer's future income.

Patterns from the table above.

Watch out

The FTC treats statements like "earn a six-figure income" as earnings claims11FTC, Business Opportunity Rule, 16 CFR Part 437, eCFR, read November 2, 2026. A course whose ads sell the buyer's future income is the kind of offer ad platforms, processors and regulators target together.

Testimonials and student results

Google is the most explicit: "Testimonials that claim specific results must include a visible disclaimer stating that there is no guarantee of specific results and that the results can vary." If you guarantee a result, you also need "a clear and easily accessible refund (money-back) policy"3Google Ads policy, Unreliable claims, read November 2, 2026.

On Meta and TikTok, a student's income figure in an ad reads as the promise those platforms ban1Meta, Community Standards, Prohibited Commercial Practices, read November 2, 20264TikTok Ads policy, Deceptive practices, updated August 2025. Use reviews about the skill, the format and the support. Keep the same rule on the sales page.

Is a course a Special Ad Category?

Meta lists four Special Ad Categories: "housing, employment, financial products and services, or issues, elections, and politics"6Meta for Developers, Special Ad Category, read November 2, 2026. A course or coaching program is not one of them by nature.

  • Teaching a skill (design, cooking, fitness coaching, writing): no special category.
  • Promoting a financial product (a loan, a credit card, an investment account) inside the ad: it may fall under "financial products and services".
  • Not sure? Check the category when you create the campaign. Choosing it limits targeting options.

The landing page is reviewed too

Ad reviewers follow the link. A clean ad that lands on an income-claim page gets rejected or, later, the account gets restricted.

  • The page promises the same skill as the ad, in the same words.
  • No income figures, dashboards or "results not typical" fine print used as cover.
  • Testimonials are real, typical, and carry a no-guarantee line.
  • Price, payment plan total and refund terms are visible before checkout.
  • The membership or subscription terms are shown next to the buy button.

The full page structure is in landing pages for info product businesses and the info product sales funnel.

Tracking: send purchases from the server

Course funnels often move buyers across two or three domains: a page builder, a checkout, a course platform. The browser pixel loses purchases on the way. Send them from the server too, and let the platform deduplicate.

What your course platform already sends

Check what your tools send before you add another one. Two connections sending the same purchase double your numbers.

Deeper setup: server-side tracking for info product businesses and ad attribution.

Setup checklist

  1. Create the Meta Pixel and the TikTok Pixel, and add them to every domain in the funnel.
  2. Connect the Conversions API and the Events API from the tool that confirms payment.
  3. Send the same event ID from browser and server for each purchase.
  4. Make sure only one tool sends server purchases.
  5. Buy your own course, then check in Events Manager that the purchase appears once, as deduplicated.
  6. Read every ad and the landing page against the rules table above.
  7. Launch with a skill-based offer, and watch refunds and disputes per campaign.

Check the tracking and the rules before the first dollar of spend.

Frequently asked questions

Can you run Facebook ads for an online course?

Yes. Meta does not restrict courses or coaching. It prohibits "Offers of opportunities of unrealistic financial reward for unclear or minimal effort" and content that implies a viewer's financial status. Sell the skill the course teaches, and keep the landing page as careful as the ad.

Why was my coaching ad rejected?

Usually for the promise, not the product: an income figure, cash or dashboards on screen, or copy like "tired of being broke?". Those match Meta's and TikTok's rules on unrealistic financial reward, flaunting money and personal attributes. Rewrite around the skill and resubmit, then check the landing page too.

Can I show student results in my ads?

Show what students learned, with permission. Google requires a visible disclaimer that there is "no guarantee of specific results" on result testimonials. On Meta and TikTok, a student's income in an ad reads as a financial promise. The FTC treats income statements as earnings claims.

Is an online course ad a Special Ad Category on Meta?

Not by itself. Meta's Special Ad Categories are "housing, employment, financial products and services, or issues, elections, and politics". A skill course is none of these. An ad that promotes a loan, a card or an investment product may fall under financial products and services.

Why does Meta report more purchases than my course platform?

Usually because two tools send the same purchase from the server, or the event ID differs between pixel and server. Meta deduplicates only when the `eventID` and `event_id` match and the events arrive within 48 hours. Kajabi warns against using its token and a third-party gateway together.
