Payout Timing for Info Product Businesses

When course and coaching sales reach your bank: Kajabi, Teachable, Stripe and PayPal payout timing, reserves, and why info products get held longer.

Article summary

TL;DR

A new course business is usually paid 1 to 4 weeks after its first sale. Stripe typically pays a new account 7 to 14 days after its first payment; Kajabi Payments starts monthly with a 7-day delay; Teachable can hold 100% of a new school's earnings for 14 days, then 10% for 45 days. High-ticket launches get held longer.

  • Stripe "typically schedules your initial payout to complete within 7–14 days", depending on industry, country and risk (read November 2, 2026).
  • Kajabi Payments sets new accounts to "Monthly with a T+7 transaction delay"; other schedules may open 1 to 2 business days after the first sale (October 2026).
  • Teachable's standard reserve is "10%, with earnings unlocked 45 days after purchase"; new schools "may face a 100% reserve rate with a 14-day unlock period".
  • A Visa "not received" dispute can come 120 days after the last expected service date, up to 540 days after the sale: long coaching programs stay at risk longer.
  • PayPal can hold funds "for up to 180 days" when it judges it needs to (User Agreement, September 2026).

Payout timing by platform

Each platform has three settings that decide when you get paid: the first payout, the regular rhythm and the reserve.

Example

A new Teachable school sells a $997 course on March 1. Under the new-school terms, the full amount can be held until March 153Teachable Knowledge Base, Teachable Pay, read November 2, 2026. Once the school moves to standard terms, $99.70 of each sale stays held for 45 days and the rest follows the payout rhythm3Teachable Knowledge Base, Teachable Pay, read November 2, 2026.

Why course money is held longer

Processors hold funds against what can still come back: refunds and disputes. For info products, that window is long.

  1. Service dates move the dispute clock.

Visa allows a "not received" dispute up to 120 days after "the last date that the Cardholder expected to receive the merchandise or services", capped at 540 days after the transaction7Visa Core Rules and Visa Product and Service Rules, edition of October 24, 2026, table 11-93 (p. 755). A 12-month coaching program paid upfront stays exposed for over a year.

  2. High tickets.

One $3,000 dispute wipes out the margin of dozens of small sales.

  3. Promise-driven disputes.

Buyers who expected an income file "misrepresentation" disputes, which processors watch on this vertical.

  4. Launches.

A spike of sales on a new account looks like risk, even when it's a planned cart opening.

Visa and Mastercard flag US merchants at 1.5% disputes in 20268Stripe Docs, Dispute and fraud card monitoring programs, read November 2, 2026. Long before that line, a rising dispute rate is the most common reason a processor raises a reserve. Prevention: chargebacks for info product businesses.

Launches and cash flow

A launch concentrates months of revenue in a few days, and that's what processors notice.

  1. Tell your processor before cart opens: expected volume, dates, ticket size.
  2. Budget ad spend without launch revenue: assume the first weeks of sales arrive late.
  3. Answer refund requests during the launch within a day; refunds cost less than disputes.
  4. Keep delivery records from day one: logins, lessons opened, calls attended.
  5. Don't change your bank account mid-launch: Kajabi applies a 7-day hold on all payouts after a bank update2Kajabi Help Center, Kajabi Payments payouts, October 2, 2026.

Five moves before a launch, so payouts keep up with sales.

Payment plans and memberships

Recurring revenue reaches you charge by charge, so the timing question changes.

  • Payment plans. Each installment is a separate charge and follows the normal payout rhythm. A plan sold at launch keeps paying out months later, which smooths cash but leaves you exposed to failed payments.
  • Memberships. Monthly charges arrive every cycle; annual plans bring a large payment that may sit under a reserve.
  • Failed charges delay the money they represent. Recovery flows: failed payment recovery for info product businesses.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Kajabi take to pay out?

New Kajabi Payments accounts start on a monthly schedule with a 7-day transaction delay, for "regulatory and compliance purposes". Daily, weekly or monthly options may become available 1 to 2 business days after the first sale. Changing your bank account adds a 7-day hold on all payouts.

Why is Teachable holding my earnings?

Teachable holds a reserve against refunds and chargebacks. Its standard reserve is 10%, unlocked 45 days after purchase, and new schools may have 100% held for 14 days. Refunds and chargebacks also reduce the payout amount.

How long does Stripe take for the first payout on a new account?

Stripe typically completes the first payout 7 to 14 days after the first live payment, depending on industry, country and risk level. After that, payouts follow your schedule: daily by default where supported, or weekly, monthly or manual.

Why was my payout put on hold after a launch?

A sudden spike in sales on a new or small account looks like risk. Processors may add a reserve or review the account. Stripe, when it finds an unacceptable risk, typically pauses payouts for 120 days. Warning your processor before a launch reduces the chance.

Can I get paid daily as a course creator?

Often, once the account is past its first weeks. Stripe defaults to daily payouts where supported, Teachable offers daily payouts on paid plans, and Kajabi may open daily schedules after the first sale. Reserves still apply on top.
