How to Get a Supplement Merchant Account Approved
The documents, site checks and offer rules underwriters look at before approving a supplement brand, typical timelines, and what to do if refused.
Article summary
TL;DR
Send a complete file and a site that already follows the rules. Underwriters want ID and company documents, bank and processing statements, your labels and claims, and a checkout that shows the full price, billing frequency and how to cancel before the card field. Processors that publish timelines quote 1 to 5 business days once the file is complete.
- Typical documents: owner ID, voided check, 3 months of bank statements, 3 to 6 months of processing statements if you have a history.
- Soar Payments states it needs a chargeback ratio "under 2% for approval".
- Published approval times run from 1 to 5 business days after a complete file.
- Underwriters read your labels, claims and checkout; disease claims and unclear trials are the usual refusals.
- Supplements usually sit under MCC 5499, or 5968 for direct-marketing subscriptions.

Supplements usually sit under MCC 5499, or 5968 for direct-marketing subscriptions8Visa Merchant Data Standards Manual, April 2026.
Ask for the terms in writing: rate, reserve percentage and period, monthly volume limit, approved products, payout delay. More on money: fees and reserves.
Watch out
Approval covers the products and offers you declared. A new product line or a new trial offer can need a new review. Ask before you launch it.
If you're refused
- Ask why. Claims, offer, history or documents.
- Fix the cause on the site, not only in the file.
- Don't re-apply elsewhere with a different story. Underwriters compare.
- Lower your risk: one-time purchases first, then subscriptions with clear terms.
- Keep disputes low while you rebuild history: chargebacks for supplement brands.
A refusal names a cause. Fix that cause on the site before any new application.
Rules you'll be held to after approval: supplement merchant account compliance.
