Shopify or a Sales Funnel for Your Supplement Brand?

Shopify store, sales funnel or both: what each does best for a supplement brand, side by side, and which setup fits how you sell.

Article summary

TL;DR

Use a Shopify store if you sell a catalog to buyers who arrive by search, marketplaces or your brand name. Use a sales funnel if you sell one hero product to cold traffic from ads. Most supplement brands that run paid social end up with both: Shopify for the catalog and operations, a funnel and checkout layer for ad traffic, upsells and subscriptions.

  • A store lets visitors browse; a funnel takes them through one offer, one step at a time.
  • Shopify allows one card processor at a time, and charges 0.2% to 2% extra per order if it is not Shopify Payments.
  • Shopify Payments applies the prohibited lists of its processors, Stripe and PayPal. Stripe restricts nutraceuticals that are unsafe or make harmful claims.
  • ClickFunnels starts at $97 a month on monthly billing (October 2026).
  • The hybrid setup works if one system owns subscriptions and customer data. Decide which before you connect them.

What each is built for

Side by side for a supplement brand

The questions that matter for supplements are about payments and recurring orders, not themes.

When Shopify alone is enough

  • You sell many products and customers browse before they buy.
  • Most traffic is organic search, Amazon spillover, email or returning customers.
  • You run few ads to cold audiences.
  • Your processor accepts your products, so the third-party fee is not a factor.

When a funnel wins

The hybrid setup: who does what

Many brands keep Shopify and add a funnel and checkout layer for ad traffic. It works when the roles are clear.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use Shopify or a sales funnel for supplements?

It depends on how you sell. Shopify fits a catalog bought through search, marketplaces and repeat visits. A funnel fits one hero product sold to cold ad traffic. Brands that do both usually keep Shopify for the catalog and add a funnel and checkout layer for their ads.

Can I use a sales funnel with Shopify?

Yes. The funnel handles the landing page, offer, checkout and upsells, and orders sync to Shopify for fulfillment. Decide which system owns subscriptions and customer data before you connect them, so renewals are not billed twice.

Which converts better for a single supplement product?

For cold paid traffic, a funnel built around one offer usually gives you more control: a pre-sell page, a focused offer page, a short checkout and upsells. Zapier's comparison makes the same point for single-product sellers. Test it on your own traffic before you switch everything.

Does Shopify charge extra if I use my own payment processor?

Yes, unless you use Shopify Payments. The fee is 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of your processor's fees. Shopify also allows only one card processor at a time.
