Why Your Supplement Brand Gets Traffic but No Sales

A step-by-step diagnosis for supplement stores with visits but no orders: data, traffic, trust, offer, checkout and declined payments.

Article summary

TL;DR

When a supplement store gets visits but no orders, check five things in order: whether the traffic and tracking are real, whether visitors match your ads, whether the product page earns trust, whether the offer is clear, and whether the checkout and payment go through. Find the step where most visitors drop off and fix that one first.

  • Health and wellness stores convert at about 2.3% at the median (Eevy AI, March 2026). Below 1%, something is broken, not just weak.
  • 40% of US shoppers who abandon a checkout cite extra costs such as shipping and fees (Baymard).
  • 19% abandon because they don't trust the site with their card, and 10% because their card was declined.
  • Supplement buyers check for proof: ingredients, third-party testing, reviews and the required FDA statement.
  • Sometimes the sales exist but the ad platform does not see them: Meta can restrict purchase events for health advertisers.

This diagnosis is part of our playbook on the best ecommerce platform for supplement brands. Compare your numbers with supplement brand benchmarks before you change anything.

Step 0: check that the data is real

Before fixing the store, make sure the problem is not in the numbers.

Bot trafficSpikes with zero add-to-carts, visits from countries you don't ship to, 0-second sessionsFilter bots in analytics; the real conversion rate is higher than you think

Watch out

Meta can restrict lower-funnel events such as purchases for health and wellness advertisers, as reported by Stape4Stape, on Meta's health and wellness data restrictions, March 3, 2026 (secondary source). Your campaigns may show "no sales" while your store has orders. See server-side tracking for supplement brands.

Find where visitors drop off

Every lost sale happens at one step. Look at the share of visitors who reach the next one.

Fix the step with the biggest drop first.

The overall benchmark is about 2.3% for health and wellness, 1.7% on mobile1Eevy AI, Shopify conversion rate benchmarks 2026, health and wellness, March 29, 2026. The step with the biggest drop compared with the rest is your priority.

Traffic quality: do visitors match your ads?

Traffic that does not convert is often traffic you paid for with the wrong promise.

Product page trust: where supplements are different

The FDA statement reads:321 CFR 101.93, Certain types of statements for dietary supplements

This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

21 CFR 101.93(c), the statement next to a structure/function claim

Watch out

Stronger claims do not fix trust. A claim to treat or cure a disease turns a supplement into a drug under FDA rules321 CFR 101.93, Certain types of statements for dietary supplements, and it puts your processor account at risk.

Offer and price: is the choice clear?

Visitors who trust the product still leave if the offer is confusing.

Building the offer: the supplement sales funnel: offer and page structure and bundles and quantity breaks.

Checkout friction: costs, accounts and length

10% leave on a declined card: the cause nobody checks.

Baymard Institute, US online shoppers, excluding shoppers just browsing, updated September 22, 2025.

What to do:

  1. Show shipping costs on the product page, or set a free shipping threshold.
  2. Allow guest checkout.
  3. Cut the checkout to one page with only the fields you need.
  4. Add Apple Pay and Google Pay for mobile buyers.

Payment declines: the cause nobody checks

10% of abandoners leave because their card was declined2Baymard Institute, Cart abandonment rate statistics and reasons for abandonment, US online shoppers, updated September 22, 2025. For a supplement brand, declines can come from your own processor setup, not only from the buyer's bank.

  • Check your decline rate in the processor dashboard, by reason code.
  • Look for a pattern: many declines from one country, one card type or one time of day.
  • Watch for account reviews. A processor reviewing a supplement account can hold or slow payments.
  • Have a second processor ready, so a decline or a review on one does not stop every sale.

Follow up on the visitors who left

Most visitors will not buy on the first visit. 42% of US shoppers who abandon say they were just browsing2Baymard Institute, Cart abandonment rate statistics and reasons for abandonment, US online shoppers, updated September 22, 2025.

  • Abandoned checkout emails and SMS within the first hours.
  • A reminder with the answer to the main doubt: testing, reviews, return policy.
  • Retargeting with the same offer they saw.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my supplement store get traffic but no sales?

Usually one of five reasons: fake or untracked traffic, visitors who do not match the ad, a product page that does not earn trust, an unclear offer, or friction and declines at checkout. Find the step where most visitors drop off, using add-to-cart, checkout and order rates, and fix that step first.

What conversion rate should a supplement store have?

Health and wellness stores convert at about 2.3% at the median and 4.5% at the top decile, according to Eevy AI's March 2026 benchmarks. Mobile is lower, at 1.7%. If you are under 1% on real, human traffic, look for a broken step rather than small optimizations.

Why do people add supplements to cart but not buy?

The top reason is extra costs: 40% of US shoppers who abandon cite shipping, tax or fees. Others leave because they don't trust the site with their card (19%), an account is required (18%) or the checkout is too long (17%). Show costs early and allow guest checkout.

How do I know if my traffic is bots?

Look for spikes with no add-to-carts, sessions of zero seconds, and visits from countries you don't ship to. Compare store orders with what your ad platform reports. If orders exist but Meta shows none, the problem is tracking, not traffic.

Should I lower my prices to get sales?

Not first. Merchants in Shopify's community note that price cuts rarely fix conversion on their own. Supplement buyers leave more often because of trust and hidden costs. Fix the product page and the checkout, then test the offer.
