What Shopify allows, and what Shopify Payments excludes

How delivery works on Shopify

Shopify delivers the file itself, unlike a bare Stripe account. NFTs on Shopify

Allowed, within a narrow lane. "Being an approved seller of NFTs enables first-party, primary sales of NFTs using Shopify Payments"6Shopify Help Center, Shopify and NFTs, read November 3, 2026. You apply through one of Shopify's NFT distribution app partners, and buyers can pay by card or Shop Pay6Shopify Help Center, Shopify and NFTs, read November 3, 2026.

• Regions: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States6Shopify Help Center, Shopify and NFTs, read November 3, 2026.

Fraud and disputes: no Shopify Protect, no tracking number

So the proof is yours.

For a card-absent fraud dispute on digital goods, Visa accepts a description of the goods, the date they were provided, and 2 or more of these8Visa Core Rules and Visa Product and Service Rules, table 11-7 and dispute condition 13.5, edition October 24, 2026:

• IP address;
• device ID;
• the buyer's name and email linked to their profile;
• a verified login before the purchase;
• an access on or after the purchase;
• the same device and card in an earlier undisputed sale.

Visa also lets buyers dispute digital goods bought through a trial or introductory offer when they were "not clearly advised of further Transactions" (condition 13.5)8Visa Core Rules and Visa Product and Service Rules, table 11-7 and dispute condition 13.5, edition October 24, 2026. Taxes on digital products

You are the seller. Shopify's terms say "You are the seller or merchant of record for all sales through the Services"10Shopify Terms of Service, section 4.1, last updated October 20, 2026, so the tax registrations are yours.

• EU buyers: "Consumers living in the European Union (EU) must pay a value added tax (VAT) on digital goods", at the rate of their own country, wherever you are9Shopify Help Center, Digital product taxes, read November 3, 2026.
• Location evidence: "some tax authorities require that you collect and record two pieces of evidence of a buyer's location". Shopify provides the billing address and the customer's IP address for each order9Shopify Help Center, Digital product taxes, read November 3, 2026.
• Setup: "Enabling VAT rates creates a product collection with automatically-assigned VAT settings for each EU country"9Shopify Help Center, Digital product taxes, read November 3, 2026.
